Room 10 will be celebrating the end of our year and inquiry with a wearable art (hats) parade. We have created hats using new and recycled materials. This will be in the hall between 7:00 and 8:00 on the 14 December. See you there!

Room 10 have been busy making bowls from paper mache.
We looked at how best to make paper mache bowls, checking; size of the paper, types of paper and what glue and how much to use. We then set about making them. We trimmed our finished bowls and painted them.
Below are photos of the children and their bowls.

As part of Room 10’s inquiry we looked at forces - push, pull and friction. We wondered what were the best surfaces to ride a scooter on, then justified our choices using scientific language. Having worked out that the tennis court was the best surface we decided to make an obstacle course for our scooters. We thought that after we made it we would share it with others. We each made a plan for an obstacle course, then got into small groups and decided which obstacle course we could use and then made it. Each group tested their obstacle course and made any changes that they needed. We found that we needed a ramp. We asked Mr Clive our caretaker for help. He brought in five pieces of wood that when joined together would make a ramp - we just had to work out how … and we did! Later we made one obstacle course for the whole class, tested it, then made a larger obstacle course that took up all the available space we could use. You will notice that our obstacle course is actually in the hall on the smooth concrete floor - that was the weather rather than choice!
We invited Rooms 1, 4, 5 and 8 to try our obstacle course, then tried their obstacle courses.

Room 10 have been lucky to have visits from some very special animals recently.
Firstly Toby shared his frogs with us. We saw these as tadpoles at the beginning of the year when Toby brought them in in February. We were amazed by the their camouflage. It was hard to spot the brown frog in the bowl!
This week we had a visit from a stick insect that was found by some children near the playground. The children were amazed how still the stick insect could stay. It’s feet had wee hooks so it could hang upside down.
Both quite fascinating.
